Rangers vs Hibs - Match Preview

Rangers are hosts to Hibernian on Sunday as they hope to maintain their fine form and remain top of the table. Being a young side with an international pedigree, Hibs pose a threat coming into the game. Eleven goals in their last two have propelled the difference between the Gers and Glasgow City, can Hibs be another victim of a Rangers goal riot?

Rangers’ Form

15 points from their last five fixtures and goals from all over the park – Malky Thomson has built up a momentum that can only get stronger. Being a professional side, they have full focus on their football – an advantage that only themselves and Celtic feel at the minute.

Last week they brushed Spartans off with ease with five goals on the scoresheet. Usual netting suspects Kirsty Howat and Lizzie Arnot had their say in the win, along with Zoe Ness and Clare Gemmell. 22-year-old Jamaican international, Chantelle Swaby made her debut and put in a fantastic shift – she even picked up our Player of The Match. From start to finish Malky Thomson’s side dominated the game and kept hold of the ball, and the pace of the game never dropped. Fitness levels in the Rangers camp are un-doubtedly the highest in the league.

Hibernian’s Form

Two wins in five has been enough to see Hibs cling on to their fourth-place spot in the table. Spartans and Forfar are on the tail of the Edinburgh side, so three points are crucial to keep their chances of a top four finish. Despite being a part-time squad, they’ve done well to compete with other teams in the league and prove their place.

They most recently bagged a win against Motherwell in a tight 3-2 win. Goals from Amy Gallacher and Colette Cavanagh sealed the much-needed three points for their team – most notably the winning free-kick from Gallacher in the second half. Motherwell are currently fighting relegation with Hearts at the bottom of the table, so they remain solely on three points each. Goalkeeper Emily Mutch is a vastly experienced shot-stopper for her age and could be the difference in result for Hibs. International duty is no stranger to the youngster between the sticks.
