Match Preview – Celtic v Rangers 21.04.21

This is Ibrox

Tomorrow sees two Glasgow giants meet for one of the biggest occasions in football – The Old Firm. One goal separated the two sides the last time they met, a penalty in the closing stages of the game meant Celtic went home with three points and the bragging rights. Rangers will no doubt be out to seek revenge and to put things right. More importantly, a win at Celtic Park could see them strengthen their chances of a title win even further. A huge occasion not to be missed.

Three wins on the bounce and an average of four goals per game, Rangers are in fine form going into the fixture. Additionally, the defence and goalkeepers are keeping the ball out of their ends to tally up the number of clean sheets. On Sunday they faced a tough opponent in Hibs and remained patient to seal the win. For the first time in a while, they had to settle for a lone goal advantage whilst trying to deflect attempts at an equaliser. After the game, gaffer Malky Thomson praised his side for their perseverance and concentration – qualities that may be needed more so in the next few weeks.

Celtic are sitting third in the table as it stands, only five points behind Rangers and Glasgow City. Getting in on the goals, they put five past Spartans on Sunday and three past Hearts the previous week. Being one of two fully professional sides in the league – Rangers the other – means that they have the time, facilities and players to de-rail Rangers’ title hopes if they win against them. Since that 1-0 win at Auchenhowie, the only team to have beaten them has been Glasgow City. They’ve shown they are a club who can’t be written off, even in the last seconds of a game.
