Rangers recorded a 6-0 win over Motherwell in the penultimate Scottish Building Society SWPL1. Goals from Nicola Docherty, Kirsten Reilly, Rachel McLauchlan, Zoe Ness, Clare Gemmell and an own goal sealed all three points for Malky Thomson’s side at The Rangers Training Centre.

The home team got off to a dominant start with an early goal in the fourth minute. Nicola Docherty beat her player and crossed the ball into the box, but it dipped under the Motherwell bar to give Rangers the lead.

Motherwell absorbed the pressure that came in blue - Truly Pollard kept out Brogan Hay on numerous occasions to keep the disadvantage at one.

Kirsten Reilly then doubled her side’s lead with a sweetly stricken hit from far out. The Motherwell midfield gave the 25-year-old too much space and were punished.

Ten before half-time, right-back McLauchlan made it three to Rangers after a great ball from Ness finds its way to the back post. Lizzie Arnot’s effort was initially saved by Pollard, but McLauchlan was there to follow up.

The second half got back underway with a goal from Zoe Ness. Nine minutes after the whistle, Ness got her head into a clever ball towards goal to nick it over the goalkeeper. With four goals so far, the Blue Belles were in full control.

The ‘Wells Jordan McLintock gave the Light Blue’s their fifth goal of the match through an unfortunate own goal that came from a cross in by Arnot.

The goal spell calmed as Rangers settled into more patient play and Motherwell still kept pushing for an opportunity.

To mark her last ever home game as a Ger, Captain Clare Gemmell grabbed the sixth and final goal of the evening. A header deep into the net gave Pollard no chance in goal - with plenty of applaud and celebrations from the stands and pitch.

In a fitting tribute for a long-serving player, both Motherwell and Rangers clapped Clare Gemmell off the park to congratulate her on a fantastic career and well wishes on her retirement. A 6-0 win at home will see the veteran off into next week’s fixture against Glasgow City - the final game of the season.v
