Richard Gough. Everything you'd want from a Rangers captain. A leader of men. A colossus at the heart of Rangers defence. Gough was one of the best defenders in world football in the nineties. He was so good in fact that Arigo Sacchi (the manager of the great AC Milan side of the late 80's and early 90's) said Milan would've won the Champions League in 92/93 if he'd signed him, which he claimed he'd wanted to do. Alas they lost to the cheats of Marseille that year, who had pipped us to win the group by bribing CSKA Moscow into lying down for a six nil thumping. Anyway, back to Richard Gough. He epitomised that nine in a row team. He led that team, he dragged them through tough games. He pitched in with crucial goals and he was that teams leader. He defended like a lion, like his life depended on it. World class, that's what he was. One of the greatest centre backs on the planet for years during his illustrious career. The iconic picture of him, bubbling, emotional and in a suit on the Tannadice pitch after we had clinched nine in a row is one of my favourite Rangers photos. It showed how much it meant to him. How much Rangers meant to him. You could tell it was an honour for the man to be the captain of Rangers Football Club. When I think of that team I think of its leader, it's captain. Richard Gough. Rangers Legend. And rightly so.Richard Gough - A Leader of Men
