Jim Baxter - Conquered Scottish Football

Jim Baxter - Conquered Scottish Football

The Rangers team of the early 60’s was filled with class but there is one man who stands out head and shoulders above the rest, “Slim Jim” Baxter.

Signed from Raith Rovers in 1960, he was a mainstay in the team which conquered Scottish football for the first five years of the decade. Although his career was blighted by persistent problems with alcohol, there is a case of “what if” if he had not broken his leg in 1964. Flashes of genius followed but he was never the same player after that setback.

Rangers’ fans of a certain vintage will remember him fondly, not bad from a wee laddie from Hill of Beath eh?
