Glasgow City 2-0 Rangers - Match Report

Malky Thomson's Rangers ended their season on a disappointing note, as a 2-0 defeat at Glasgow City meant they ended the season in third.

First-half goals from Hayley Lauder (13) and Niamh Farrelly (32) sealed a comfortable win for the home side, with the three points securing the SWPL title for City.

Rangers made just the one change to the side which defeated Motherwell 6-0, with Chelsea Cornet replacing the soon-to-be departing skipper Clare Gemmell, as Megan Cunningham continued in goal ahead of Jenna Fife.

Rangers started brightly enough, with Brogan Hay running at the City defence early on, only to be denied by City 'keeper Lee Alexander, however, from the moment Scotland international Lauder smashed home a superb Priscila Chinchilla cross, Gers faced an uphill task.

Scott Booth's side, who were requiring only a point to win the title, pushed Rangers back and the away side had no answer for them, so perhaps it was no surprise when Farrelly nodded home from close range just after the half hour mark.

Substitute Emma Brownlie will have been disappointed to see her late effort bounce back off the bar but, in truth the game was put to bed in the first 45, and much of the second period was played at training ground pace.

It was a poor way for Rangers to end a season that had promised so much, but a learning curve non the less - and one Rangers must bounce back from next season.
