Bring on Atlético [UEFA Youth League]

It has been an excellent start to 2020 for the Rangers development squad, winning 4 out of their first 5 games. Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Huddersfield and Clyde have all been beaten by the youngsters. The development squad also fought out a 1 - 1 draw in the Glasgow Cup against Celtic.

Today the youngsters take on Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Youth league play-off. They made it to the play-offs after a first round win (on away goals) against Young Boys as well as beating Slovan Bratislava in the second round. Atletico have made the play-offs after finishing second in a very difficult group which included the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Lokomotiv Moskva and Juventus. Atlético’s only defeat was against Italian Giants Juventus.

This will be a huge test for the youngsters but one they will be relishing. In an interview with Rangers TV Ciaran Dickson said “There's a real energy in the building everyone is looking forward to it so if we go in positive I've got no doubt we can win the game”

Development squad manager Graeme Murty told Rangers TV “ It's going to be a fantastic opportunity for the players to go up against a powerhouse of European football” Murty also added “They’ve worked really hard for this reward and that they should enjoy the game”.

Rangers will be looking for Nathan Young Coombes to continue his excellent form scoring 4 goals in 4 games in the UEFA Youth League. Center Back Daniel Finlayson is also in fine form after netting 2 in 4 in this competition.

Atlético have dangerous players all over the pitch but one man to look out for is Rodrigo Riquelme, the young Spaniard is the Spanish giants top scorer in the UEFA Youth League with 2 goals and is easily one of their stand out players.

The game will take place at Firhill in Maryhill with ticket prices set at £5 for Adults and £3 for concessions, Kick off is at 1pm. This should be a fantastic game and well worth a watch.
