Brian Laudrup - World Class

Brian Laudrup - World Class

Brian Laudrup. Where do you start with this guy?

Best foreign player ever to play for Rangers? Yes, absolutely.

Most talented to play for Rangers in the last fifty years? Very possible but there's so many to compare him to.

He's up there though for sure. What a talent. So gifted and could utterly destroy defenders on a whim.

He was so good in fact that Jim White, now of SkySports and TalkSport fame asked him this question while he was interviewing him..

"Brian, why are you so good?"

My fondest memory of Laudrup is the one where he had torn Tom Boyd of Celtic to ribbons, he terrorised him to be honest and it got so bad for Boyd at one point his boot came off trying to tackle him.

Laudrup picked the boot up off the pitch, looked at Boyd and gestured to hand it back to him. Glorious!

We have the famous Laudrup Scottish Cup Final too. A match where Gordon Durie scored a hat trick yet never had a sniff of winning the man of the match award! Think about that..

He was unplayable on his day. A supreme talent who'd already won the Euros with his native Denmark and he added to his already heavily laden trophy cabinet while he was at Rangers.

He contributed so much to that nine in a row team, scoring the goal that sealed the ninth title with an incredible headed goal at Tannadice in a win against Dundee United.

He did well for us in Europe too. Scoring vital goals and helping us achieve some fantastic results in tje Champions League.

Laudrup played for Ajax, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Rangers and Chelsea among others.

Rangers got the very best of him though that's beyond debate. We got his best years, for sure.

At a time when the term World Class is overly used, Laudrup was unequivocally that. World Class.

I would say to any younger Rangers fans, go on YouTube and search out the goal he scored against Aberdeen at Ibrox. It defies belief and it surely must've bent the laws of physics. How he scored from there, I'll never know.An incredible talent and a true gentleman. A superstar of the game that we were lucky to see at Ibrox for four seasons.
