Ally McCoist - £185,000

Ally McCoist. Rangers all time top scorer. The cheeky chappy. Always a smile and always a joker. That tells you very little about the player though. He was a vital part of the nine in a row side.

Ally was signed by John Greig in 1983 and he spent fifteen seasons at Ibrox in that time he won ten league titles, nine league cups and also has a Scottish Cup winners medal. Signed for the princely sum of £185,000 he has to be one of the best pound for pound signings Rangers ever made.

He was a winner, he was a battler too, which is something that tends to get forgotten about. He gave as good as he got from the big industrial centre half's Scotland tend to produce. He was much more than a poacher, which is a title often given to him.

He had an instinct and an ability to get in front, or slide behind his marker and make that yard for himself that great strikers do.

Ten titles, twenty trophies, part of the great nine in a row team, the all time top scorer in Old Firm games and 251 goals in 418 games marks Ally McCoist out as Rangers greatest ever striker.

In todays market I think you're talking about a £50 million player. A natural finisher with abilities and instincts you simply can't teach. A genuine world class striker.

He also happens to be the scorer of my favourite Rangers goal ever, the second goal against the English Champions Leeds United at Elland Road. A diving header after a sweeping move and a magnificent cross from his strike partner Mark Hateley.

That performance that night is all the more remarkable when you take into account Leeds were the champions of England and hadn't list at home for over three and a half years.

Ally McCoist was sensational that night and the team got the ultimate tribute that night as the Leeds fans gave them a standing ovation at the final whistle.Looking back, that boy could play. Wow, what a goalscorer he was.
